AFTER SCHOOL
IS AWESOME!
147 children between the grades of kindergarten and sixth attend our
afterschool program, Uproar! 140 of those children are picked up from
their schools & brought here for snack. The Uproar children get to
choose the activity that they want to participate in each day at 4:00pm.
On any given day each child gets to choose from an average of six
different activities. Children always have the option of staying here to
complete homework so that the rest of their evening is open for other
activities at home. Uproar activities range from floor hockey at the Y,
making snowmen on the playground, parachute games, reading to the
preschoolers, dancing at Chicago Footwork’s at the Y, climbing the rock
wall in the Y gym, working out in Kidz Bop, crafting activities galore, and
most importantly making friends from other schools! New activities are always being added!
COMMON MYTHS ABOUT UPROAR
*Parents pay extra for no school days…WRONG! Parents pay a weekly
rate which includes no school days such as the 8 days over Winter Break.
*Parents pay extra for snow days…WRONG! Parents pay a weekly rate
which includes any snow days that schools are closed and we are open.
*We only pick children up from public schools…WRONG! We also walk
to Roncalli Elementary and escort children to our building and drive to
Roncalli Primary to pick children up.
*When the main Y cancels ‘all youth activities’ we also cancel
Uproar…WRONG! The phrase ‘No Youth activities at the Y’ does NOT
include our building. We are still open and accept children on those days.
*We allow children to use their electronic devices all day…WRONG!
Children may bring their electronic devices but are only allowed to use
them after 5:00pm when other planned activities have ended.

ANN TAECKER VISITS
THE YDC
In December, the Uproar program was lucky enough to have SD Artist
in Schools and Communities Resident, Ann Taecker, do a residency
here. Ann came to us by way of a grant from the SD Arts Association.
She worked with the children in Uproar for a week to develop and
create beautiful works of art with our Wizard of Oz theme. The artwork
now hangs in our Uproar hallway, some are shown below. Ann is anxious to come again this
summer and help the children create some more masterpieces!

Let's have some colorful fun! This month we are doing a coloring contest at the YDC. Prizes will be awarded for different categories. All ages are eligible. Please turn in your coloring page at the YDC Front Desk no later than
