FIREFLIES

Fireflies
We hope your holidays were filled with love and happiness. In January we will be re-establishing our routines as well as reviewing and reinforcing what we have already learned. Your child should be able to recognize letters A-G and numbers 1-10. We are also working on self-help skills such as zipping our own coats and putting on our hats and mittens. Please help by reinforcing this at home.

During this cold snowy month, we will be experiencing winter fun so please bring outdoor necessities everyday.  An extra pair of warm winter gloves is highly encouraged! Please remember to have your child’s name on all clothing! This helps out greatly when something gets misplaced.

Our theme this month is ‘Shapes’. Please watch your calendar and sign-in page for information about our shape party! With the start of a New Year, we say goodbye to Rebecca as she begins student teaching. Emily will be with us for a short time before she transfers to MSUM in Fargo for the rest of the year.

Thank you for helping make our Christmas party a success! We had a lot of fun doing reindeer games and eating goodies! Reminders: Nap things need to be washed at least monthly, especially this time of year. Please check and see if your child’s toothbrush and toothpaste need to be replaced.

When we begin letter H we will be doing a letter every week. Homework will be due every Friday!  Thank you for helping make our preschool year a success!!

Happy New Year!!

The holidays have come and gone and we’re working our way back into our normal schedule.  This month is packed with trips to the Museum and the Pet Store; watch the calendar for your child’s day!  We have many “fun” dress-up days to incorporate with our themes of the week, such as Mismatch Day, NFL Day, and White Day.  Be sure to watch for notes about them! We will all be attending a performance by the Story Book Land actors at the Capital Theatre on the 3rd.  Please bring $2.00 for this performance. We will have Show-N-Share on the 4th; please bring something that is white or starts with the letter L, M, N, O or P!  We will start working on recognizing our names with only the first letter capitalized and the rest lower case.  We will also begin cutting and tracing curved and zig-zag lines.

We hope you had a very special holiday and have a wonderful and safe 2013!

CATERPILLARS

Young children are beaming with creativity and imagination. Art projects, crafts and activities help small children to flourish and put their expression into physical objects or pictures that they create. Young children need simple yet dynamic crafts that pique their curiosity.

Caterpillars Happy 2013!!! Thanks to all of you who made our holiday a little more special. We are really blessed to be a part of your children’s lives. This month we will be talking about all the things in the winter wonderland, especially my two favorites; snowmen and penguins!
Along with our weekly swimming trips we will be heading to the mall to play on the 11th and we will have a pajama party on the 25th.

We would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Peyton on the 1st and Easton on the 25th. We hope they have a great day!

FALLING SNOWFLAKES

See the pretty snowflakes, Falling from the sky;
On the wall and housetops, Soft and thick they lie.

On the window ledges, On the branches bare;
Now how fast they gather, Filling all the air.

Look into the garden, Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes, Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes, All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden, What a pretty sight!

Enjoy the season!!

HONEYBEES

Happy New Year!!!! We had to say goodbye to two of our friends. Our friend Ferdaous left us at  the end of December but we hope to see her if she returns to SD! Our other friend, Journey will be leaving us the beginning of January. We will miss both of them greatly.  However, we did gain a new friend in December, her name is Nora.

Honeybees The children in the Honeybee room are at the age when the routine of saying hello and good-bye becomes important.  To help your child with these routines, we try to create an environment in which the children becomes comfortable to say their hellos and goodbyes. Children are welcome to bring comfort items from home such as special blankets or stuffed animal or other important object.  We also like to have pictures of families on our wall.  Even a picture of you, the parent or guardian, holding your child and reading to him/her or giving a hug or kiss will be a welcomed site during the day when your child misses you.  Sometimes children need a quiet moment or some time on Grandmas lap after a parent or guardian leaves.  These are normal reactions for children and we try to respect a childs need for these routines.

Happy New Year!
Miss Melissa, Miss Crystal, Miss Marissa, Miss Katie, Miss Jamie, and Grandma Mae.

LADYBUGS

Ladybugs Last month we had a few illnesses that passed through the center. Just a reminder to parents to make sure you are washing your hands or using sanitizer before entering our room so we can try to keep the germs at a minimum.   As most of you already know, Dianne is no longer with us due to health issues.  As we look for a new afternoon assistant, we apologize for the many new faces you may see as you pick your child up.

In the past couple months we have been watching our "little" babies grow up and have realized they aren't so little anymore… we have two more that have learned to sit, one who is starting to take steps and one who has even started to crawl! When you hear the term gross or large motor it refers to skills that allow a child to do things such as roll over, sit, crawl, walk, run, and throw a ball. The development of new motor skills allows young children to make new discoveries. As infants and young children explore, they begin to make sense of their environment.  We are looking forward to all the new things your baby will learn in the next month as they gain new skills and explore their environment!

Happy New Year ! Wishing all our families a wonderful 2013!

AFTER THE BELL

ATB ATB kids are now enjoying their Christmas Break from school. They've been doing a wide variety of activities throughout this time, such as: SkateAway, bowling, ice skating, sledding, field trips and caroling. The kids are enjoying their mornings at the YMCA Gym. During gym time the kids pick a game to play or have free play. They really seem to enjoy being able to go there and use their muscles to run and play! They are also enjoying their time spent at After the Bell.

From the Office

Happy New Year!!  As we enter this new and exciting year we wish you all well and say a HUGE THANKS for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts, goodies & well wishes!  Our hearts overflow!

We want to also thank everyone that purchased popcorn from us!  We raised just over $3,000.00 for our new playground!  Every day takes us closer to our goal of moving into our new building midsummer!  If you haven’t taken a recent look at the building progress you need to!!  We are celebrating the halfway point the first week in January!  Every Thursday the children beg to be driven the “long way” so that they can go by the new building and see what’s happening.

Best wishes in 2013!
