February was a busy month and with so many no school days in March we will be doubly busy!!
Thank you for all of the Valentine treats! We had a super fun Valentine day!
The children had a great time sledding last month. Next to ice skating, we think that sledding is their favorite activity! Thanks for bringing your child’s sled and making our day a success!
We have lots of exciting ideas for the five no school days in March! Watch for NO SCHOOL DAY activities to be posted by the check in/out book!

FIREFLIES
A sledding we will go, a sledding we will go, we’ll hold on tight and sit just right and down the hill we’ll go! We had a blast on our sledding day! Thanks you for bringing sleds, everyone had a sled to use.
February flew by, we worked on identifying quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies, our phone numbers, rhyming words, writing and reading words! Please encourage your preschooler to practice phone numbers, as we will “test” over our phone numbers.
Our March calendar seemed to fill up very quickly. A class favorite is always Pajama Day. This will be Wednesday, March 6. It is always a good idea to have a back up set of clothing for this day because we try our hardest to get the kids outside. We have our ‘I Love Summer’ Party on March. Please have your child dress in or bring beach clothing; we predict it will be a hot day! Be expecting more information on "Read Across America Day" and the Vi Bella Fundraiser on your child’s sign in page as the dates get closer. On March 29, we will be having a “Super Hero Day”. On this day we will encourage children to dress as a Super Hero, they can be a known super hero or they can make up their own.
Reminders:
There are two remaining days left for the preschool screening for kindergarten those dates are: March 7 and April 4. Call 725-7146 for more information.

GRASSHOPPERS
Making friends is important at every age! We were lucky to have After the Bell children come interact with the Grasshoppers in February. Building, dressing up, and creating words were some of the activities that we did together. New friends were made as old ones were reconnected! Even siblings played together! We are looking forward to After the Bell visiting another day!
Our Valentine’s Day party was a hit. Thank you to everyone who brought treats for our Grasshopper friends!
March is a busy month for us. We have St. Patrick’s Day, Spring, and Easter all in one month!! We also will be working on the Letter Tt, the color green, the number eight, and the shamrock shape. Your child will need a t-shirt for tie dying by Monday, March 4.
Our “I Love Summer” party is on March 8, watch for a note closer to this date!
We will be visiting the 'Children’s Museum' section at the Dakota Prairie Museum during the month. Watch for your child’s day!
Happy Birthday to McKenzie!

CATERPILLARS
Taking children outdoors daily, even in winter, can be a healthy part of their schedule. Daily outdoor play is healthy and burns energy. It gives children an opportunity for a change of environment, a balance in play and routine, and large muscle activities. Children feel refreshed when fresh air is a part of their daily routine.
This month we will be learning about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and hopping down the bunny trail looking for the Easter Bunny and basket of eggs.
We have 2 special adventures this month. We will be taking small groups to the Dacotah Prairie Museum for the Children’s museum and we will be making a trip to the mall to play.
March 8 will be our “I Love Summer” Party. Please have your child bring “summer stuff” on the day. We will also be having a Pajama Day on March 22.
Have a great month!

This is a finger play that the children will be learning. Have fun doing it with them at home! Children love and thrive on repetition so do not be surprised if your child wants to do it over and over again!

HONEYBEES
Infants and toddlers are constantly using their five basic senses to help them learn about the world around them and to grow and develop especially in the early years of their lives. However; they also have two other sensory skills that they come to understand as they grow and develop. The first is when they become aware of their own bodies. Secondly, is their amazing ability to maintain their balance once they learn to stand and then to walk.
Last month, we brought snow into our classroom from outside. This is an easy way to stimulate children’s senses and makes learning fun. The children were able to pick it up, eat it, and throw it on the floor and then sit in the water that pooled on the floor. Lots of sensory fun just from a few piles of snow!

LADYBUGS
As with everything, children learn language at different rates. In the first three months your baby will interact by cooing, gurgling, and making different cries for different needs. By six months, she'll graduate to babbling and turning her head toward a noise. Then, around 12 months, she'll imitate speech sounds and say her first word. Teaching your child sign language can help ease frustration children can have before they learn to talk. By teaching your child to sign words like "more" you give him tools to ask for the things he needs. If you say the word every time you sign, you're reinforcing the association between the sound and the object. We will begin teaching sign language to the children in our room over the next few months. We will also have a print out in our room with signs that you can take home to use with your child if desired.
We will have our "I Love Summer" party on March 8, please bring a swimsuit and swim diaper for fun in our pool. Happy Birthday to Jake on March 28!

AFTER THE BELL
This month the kids have enjoyed a couple snow days, along with two actual days off. On one of the days we had Pajama Day and went over to play with the Learning Tree kids. ATB kids loved every minute of it and were so excited to be able to spend time with them and take part in their day. One child said to us, “This is so much fun, they are so loving and so kind.” It is fun to watch how the older kids interact with the younger ones, and also to watch the younger ones attach to the older ones! We will be going back to read to them on March 1 for “Read Across America Day".
What is the definition of play? A basic definition would be “a spontaneous, undirected activity that is performed mainly for enjoyment or diversion.” However in a child’s life, play is much more then that. Play reflects on a child’s physical development, social development, intellectual development, creativity and also helps develop emotion values.
